Learning Series

What is a Learning Series?

A “Learning Series” represents a coherent sequence of educational workshops on a selected topic. This enables the SCTL to engage in multiple discussions with a specific cohort of participants. Learning Series will have unlimited enrollment and will require participants to pre-register to obtain the virtual meeting link.

Winter 2024 Schedule

Diversified Assessment Learning Series

In this three-part virtual learning series, we will explain why and show faculty how to diversify their assessment and evaluation strategies to promote multiple means of student engagement, representation, and action and expression (UDL principles). Having a diversified assessment strategy helps to proactively meet the needs of your diverse learners, based on their readiness, interests, learning needs and preferences. Join us to share your questions and experiences with diversifying assessment purposes, tasks, tools, and feedback strategies!

GenAI in Higher Ed 

In this three-part virtual learning series, we will continue to explore the usage of new and existing generative AI (GenAI) tools in the context of higher education. The first session will be an overview of relevant tools, focusing on updates to ChatGPT (as needed) as well as usage of other Large Language Models (LLMs) as they continue to become available. Follow-up sessions will focus on topics including methods of obtaining sources from and sourcing the use of GenAI tools, matching course assessments with appropriate usage policies, creating Custom Instructions for course ideation, introducing the topic of GenAI with students, and others as suggested by our SLC community as well as depending on the state of the industry.

Indigenous Education Series

In this virtual learning series, we will reflect on your own identity within the histories of colonization in Canada & acknowledge the perpetuation of these histories.  You will also reflect on ways to engage in decolonization, by recognizing and addressing privilege and power imbalances in contemporary realities.

In this virtual learning series, we will begin to dive into the heart and head work by providing some foundational knowledge about Indigenous-People, our histories, decolonization and reconciliation to enhance your knowledge of Indigenous history & understand how this may influence how you work with Indigenous people and colleagues while increasing your understanding of Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
