Review our Monthly Schedule of Teaching & Learning Opportunities
Immersive tech is an umbrella term for a variety of tools incorporating virtual elements across a continuum of applications. These tools help provide engaging, interactive environments where students can experience, explore, and apply concepts in ways that go beyond traditional methods. Whether it’s simulating a critical procedure, visualizing complex scientific processes, or practicing communication skills in lifelike scenarios, immersive technology can bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Tilt Brush is a 3D art space with a variety of creative tools and effects
360 videos can be viewed on phones on desktop computers, but are best viewed with a VR headset. There are multiple resources available focused on providing realistic learning experiences related to travel, ecology, music, healthcare, and more.
Perspective-taking in VR
Virtual Reality (VR) offers immersive, first-person experiences that make perspective-taking more vivid and impactful. By allowing students to "step into someone else's shoes," VR can deepen empathy, enhance cultural understanding, and support social-emotional learning to make abstract concepts more concrete and human experiences more relatable.
Perspective taking is the ability to view a situation or understand a concept from another person's point of view, described by Wolgast et at (2020) as a multifaceted skill set involving the disposition, motivation, and contextual attempts to consider and understand other individuals.
This 360 Video should be viewed in VR. Please contact the SCTL for details.
Clouds Over Sidra is a 360 video VR experience that follows a 12-year-old Syrian girl named Sidra who lives in the Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan.

Exploring the use of immersive virtual reality in nursing education: A scoping review (Clinical Simulation in Nursing. Dec 2024)
This scoping review revealed that immersive virtual reality has the potential to improve self-confidence, assist with skill acquisition, improve learning outcomes, provide opportunity for perspective taking, and promote engagement with nursing students. Because only 14 studies met the review inclusion criteria, there is a need for further research as to how to best implement this technology, and to better understand the strengths and limitations of immersive VR in nursing education.
A review on cultivating effective learning: synthesizing educational theories and virtual reality for enhanced educational experiences (Peer J, Computer Science. May 2024)
Findings show that VR improves learning outcomes when aligned with theories such as constructivism, experiential learning, and collaborative learning. These integrations offer personalized, immersive, and interactive learning experiences.
Impact of 3D Virtual Reality on Teaching and Learning Human Anatomy Among Undergraduate Students (Annals of Pakistan Institute of Medical Science. June 2024)
3D-VR is effective method for knowledge retention in short-term and long-term in undergraduate students. Undergraduate students demonstrated 3D-VR as a learning method that offers substantial advantages for studying human anatomy versus traditional method.
