SoTL Funding Opportunities
Engaging in SoTL research often requires funding. St. Lawrence College is committed to promoting all forms of research—including SoTL. For funding opportunities, please review the Academic Scholarship Funding Programs provided by the Research and Innovation Department at St. Lawrence College.
Researchers applying for Ignite, Activate, or Achieve funding must first complete the online workshop Applied Research 101 (an Introduction to Applied Research in the College context). Please email research@sl.on.ca to request access to this online asynchronous course.
SLC & Research Ethics
SoTL research often requires approval from one or more Research Ethics Boards. If you plan to collect data from human participants, we encourage you to consult the SLC-REB Guidelines, Review Process, and Resources and email the SLC-REB if you have any questions (REB@sl.on.ca)
ARECCI Ethics Screening Tool for assessing:
the level of risk of your project
the types of ethical risks, and
the appropriate type of ethics review
Before submitting an SLC-REB application, you must first complete the online asynchronous CORE-2022, consisting of 9 modules and a knowledge consolidation exercise, to obtain the certificate of completion. The CORE-2022 introduces the Tri-Council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS 2), which provides ethics guidance that applies to all research involving human participants. The CORE training was most recently updated in 2022 to include ethics guidance for research involving Indigenous Peoples. If your CORE certificate was issued before this update in 2022, you will be asked to renew your CORE training and provide an updated certificate along with your SLC-REB application.
The TCPS 2 (2022) is the official human research ethics policy of the Tri-Council Agencies (NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR).
