Intercultural Communication

From a social science perspective, culture is the learned patterns of behaviour and attitudes (e.g., beliefs, values, norms, and practices, etc.) shared by a group of people (Martin & Nakayama, 2022). Intercultural communication involves understanding, engaging with, and effectively exchanging ideas across different cultural backgrounds. Developing intercultural communication skills is crucial for us as educators, as it enhances our ability to connect with learners from diverse cultural perspectives, address unique needs, and foster a learning atmosphere that values and integrates different viewpoints. By developing these skills, we can enrich our teaching practices, support a more equitable learning experience, and better prepare learners for success in an interconnected world.
